It has been reported that a Bakersfield Police officer has died this morning following a high-speed pursuit in Northeast Bakersfield at about 2:45 am. The crash happened in the area of Mt. Vernon and Panorama Drive.
The pursuit started in the area of Flower Street and Miller Street in east Bakersfield. The officer, lost control of his patrol car before crashing into a brick wall. The officer was pulled out of his patrol car by other police officers and taken to KMC where he was pronounced dead.
The Bakersfield Police Officers death is the first since William Sikola who was killed in a high-speed pursuit back in 1983.
As of this post, no arrests have been made and no suspect information is available. However, this crash is being investigated as a criminal and the California Highway Patrol and Bakersfield Police Department are currently searching for the suspect who led the officer on the pursuit.
